The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently issued a new
rule, called the "Lead: Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule" (RRP)
The new rule aims to protect children from lead-based paint hazards
created by renovation and remodeling projects in places they frequent,
including homes, day cares and schools.
The RRP Rule will be in effect on April 22, 2010. The pdf file
"Small Entity Compliance Guide to Renovate Right" is a handbook for
contractors, property managers and maintenance personnel working in
homes, child care facilities and schools built before 1978.
The new rule requires that contractors and maintenance professionals be
certified, that their employees be trained, and that they follow
protective lead-safe work practice standards.
To learn more about working safely with lead, contact the National Lead
Information Center at 800-424-LEAD (5323).
